Jessica Alba Joins 3D animated film ‘Escape from Planet Earth’
Tweet

Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, Brendan Fraser, Rob Corddry, James Gandolfini and Craig Robinson have signed on to voice characters in the family-friendly Escape from Planet Earth.

The Weinstein Company and Rainmaker Entertainment announced the voice cast for their tale of an alien breakout from Area 51 Tuesday.

Fraser will play the film’s hero Scorch Supernova, who, along with his brother Gary (Corddry) must go to Earth to save trapped aliens.  Parker voices Kira, Gary’s wife, while Alba will portray the no-nonsense Lena and Gandolfini serves as the film’s bad guy, Shanker.

The film, which is currently in production, is helmed by Cal Brunker (Despicable Me) and set for a 2012 release.

“A successful animated movie starts with an imaginative story and appealing characters,” Catherine Winder, president and executive producer at Rainmaker Entertainment, said in a statement. “The addition of such high caliber voice talent is a crucial layer to the mix.  With the amazing array of talented artists and creatives from both The Weinstein Company and Rainmaker collaborating on this production, we have all the right ingredients to make Escape from Planet Earth a highly entertaining and successful film.” (The Hollywood Reporter)

Jessica Alba Covers ‘Lucky’ September 2011
Tweet

Jessica Alba wears Marc Jacobs as she graces the cover of Lucky magazine’s September 2011 issue, on newsstands Tuesday (August 9).

Here’s what the 30-year-old Spy Kids 4 and new-mama-to-be had to share:

On playing superheroes: “I pretended to be a superhero when I was a kid. I thought, if boys can do it, I can do it, I can do it better!”

On being strong-willed: “There’s a video of me when I’m three, saying ‘This is a woman’s world, and I don’t need a man for nothin’!’”

On her first big audition: “We all went out for it – my mom, my auntie, her four kids, my auntie’s boyfriend, my brother and I all sardined inside our Buick Regal. That’s how we rolled back then.” Once there, she was asked to list any acting experience. “I lied and said I done plays. My mom definitely taught me how to hustle.”

Robert Rodriguez on ‘Sin City 2,’ ‘Machete’ sequels
Tweet

Robert Rodriguez stopped by EW’s VIP Comic-Con lounge to talk about a few (or many) of his upcoming projects: Sin City 2, two Machete sequels, a Heavy Metal remake, and a Fire and Ice adaptation. Phew.

But you read right — on Thursday night, Rodriguez announced he would be planning a Sin City sequel. And the director tells EW that the film will focus in part on the A Dame to Kill For storyline, which would involve characters played by Clive Owen and Mickey Rourke in the first film. Rodriguez hopes the two stars will be back — along with big names for two more storylines he plans to create for the film. Who is he hoping will jump on board? Rodriguez is keeping mum at this point, but it depends on scheduling: “Availability is going to be key,” he says.

Also on tap is a third Machete film to follow the already-written sequel to the 2010 Danny Trejo film. And Machete 3 hopes to defy gravity. Rodriguez says he sees the third film taking place in space, and plans to air a trailer for the third film ahead of Machete 2. “It’s very Moonraker,” he says. (Entertainment Weekly)

JESSICA ALBA CELEBRATES HER ‘LUCKY MAGAZINE’ COVER – July 20
Tweet

A radiant Jessica Alba was all smiles as she hosted the Lucky Magazineand ThisNext partnership celebration in Pacific Palisades, CA on Wednesday (July 20).

The expectant actress — who happens to be the cover girl for the August issue of Lucky — purred in a leopard print dress by Dolce & Gabbana as she rubbed elbows with the likes of Jordana Brewster, Leslie Bibb and Ali Landry at the girls-only event.

Before heading out, Jessica tweeted: “I’m about 2 get ready 4 my LuckyMag party benefitting @baby2baby! What color nail polish should I wear? Smokey eye or bright lip?”

Meanwhile, Jessica recently made headlines after she admitted to having explored her sexuality off-screen only after becoming a mother.

The 30-year-old starlet relied on movie roles such as the one in Sin City to draw attention to her feminine charm, as she was uncomfortable showing off her assets in her private life.

It was only with the birth of her daughter Honor in 2008 that the power of being a woman dawned upon Jessica.

“I didn’t necessarily see it (her sexuality) as a positive thing. I was afraid of it. So that is why I only really ever explored it when I was working,” she told Allure magazine. “I was quite shy with it. It wasn’t something I embraced until I had a daughter. I saw how incredible and amazing it is to be a woman and to be able to create a life.” (Faded Youth Blog). Click on the previews above to view more photos.

Jessica Alba covers Allure Magazine’s August 2011 issue
Tweet

Jessica Alba has starred in action flicks, romantic comedies, and high school dramas. But don’t ever expect to see her in a nude scene (sorry, guys). Check out these exclusive behind-the-scenes shots from her shoot with Michael Thompson. For more of our interview with the actress, pick up the August issue of Allure, on newsstands July 19.

Jessica Alba may be undeniably sexy, but it wasn’t until she actually had a baby of her own, she says, that she understood or appreciated her own sexuality. “I was quite shy with it,” she says. “It wasn’t something I embraced until I had my daughter. I saw how incredible and amazing it is to be a woman and to be able to create a life.

“There’s a reason why certain areas of the body are desirable—because it all leads to reproduction. There’s a science behind it all. It’s not just to sell whatever you’re selling on a billboard or a magazine or a movie.”

Alba has strong feelings about nudity. In all her movies, she says, “At least I’m still covered. I’m wearing as much as a bathing suit. It’s not like I’m naked. I’m not terribly comfortable with being in a bikini, but covering up my genitals is different than not covering up my genitals, at the end of the day. I do see a difference in that, to put it really frankly.” Here, she poses in a satin gown by Derek Lam.

After her first pregnancy, Alba (shown here with hairstylist Danilo) worked hard to get back into shape, and she was successful—up to a point. “I can’t ever get down to the weight I was before I had Honor,” she says. “My body’s just different. The jeans just sort of zip up differently, and things hang differently. It’s a miracle what happens, but you definitely are different afterward.” She laughs. “Unless you’re Gisele.”

Alba was recently horrified by a tabloid story in which a young woman had sought to recapture the attention of an ex-boyfriend by being surgically altered to look more like the actress. “That’s just so bizarre, because the physical is so fleeting anyway,” she says. “And when you’re in a relationship, the physical lasts for, maximum, two years. And then you don’t care how attractive you are to that person—if they drive you nuts, they drive you nuts.”

Danilo clipped in long extensions for some shots but removed them for the cover. “I wanted to work with the effortlessness of her bob,” he says. He created spiral curls with a large iron, parted her hair on the side, and loosened the curls with a mixed-bristle brush. For the cover shot, Alba wore a silk-jersey-and-leather dress by Derek Lam.

Makeup artist Pati Dubroff used red and brown shades for “an ethereal, wood-nymph look.” First, Dubroff dusted a reddish-brown-colored shadow on Alba’s lids and swiped a glossy lipstick pencil on top. She then lined the actress’s eyes with a brown pencil and applied a few coats of black mascara. Next, she swept a generous amount of rosy blush onto the apples of the cheeks. As a final step, the makeup artist used her fingers to tap on nude lipstick, which softened Alba’s lip color.

For her Allure cover, Alba was photographed at Franklin Canyon Lake—a picturesque part of a 605-acre park overlooking the Los Angeles skyline. Her daughter, Honor, visited the set and stayed to watch her pose for a few shots.

At the cover shoot, Alba gave pregnant manicurist April Foreman tips on changing diapers. “You’ll want to practice before you have the baby,” she says. The actress joked with photographer Michael Thompson about her own bump—Alba was also pregnant when he shot her for the June 2008 Allure cover.

Alba, on approaching her thirtieth birthday: “According to some people, I peaked in my early 20s,” she says with a chuckle. “I was like, ‘Oh, really? I feel like I’m getting better.’” (Allure)

Jessica Alba covers Latina Magazine’s August 2011 issue
Tweet

Bombshell Mexican American actress Jessica Alba graces the August 2011 cover of Latina magazine’s first-ever family issue, which hits newsstands on July 12th. The 30-year-old actress and star of Spy Kids 4 opens up to Latina about motherhood, showing off her very pregnant body, her insecurities and studying Spanish.

On preparing for her second child:
“The first time around, every moment was so new and terrifying and now I know what to expect. It’s like ‘It’s fine, I’ve been there before.’ With Honor, I was constantly asking myself ‘Is she moving? Is her heart beating?’ I’d worry about everything, and with this baby I don’t have the same anxieties.”

On balancing motherhood & her career:
“After I had Honor I didn’t leave the house for a while. It was all about changing diapers and feedings and still trying to get back in to the routine of my [acting] thing. I love what I do. But unless it’s worth it, I’m not going to spend time away from my daughter. Before I had her, work was all I had. Now it’s not.”

On the possibility of more kids:
“I just have to feel it out,” she says with a wink. “See how my 30s treat me. I just try to live in the moment.”

On showing off your shape:
“If you are sporting a pregnant belly, it’s better to show it than to hide it. If you look in the mirror and you look really wide and frumpy, then you’re going to appear really wide and frumpy. The more figure‐forming your clothes, even though you have more curves, the better. I like long, thin sweaters that kind of hide my hips and my booty, so there’s not a huge emphasis on how big they’re getting.”

On her insecurities:

“I was a lot more insecure when I was younger. I was very sensitive to criticism. Now I’m definitely a lot more self‐assured.” In 2008, she told Latina: “All of the stuff I got made fun of as a kid– bubble butt, fish lips, the dark skin – I’m proud of now.”

On landing her breakthrough role:
“I certainly knew the significance of Dark Angel because I knew how difficult it was just to get to that point. A lot of people didn’t even give me a chance based on how racially ambiguous I looked.”

On studying Spanish:

“I’ve definitely considered moving to a Spanish‐speaking country for a little while, even if it’s just a month or two, because I think at the end of the day that’s how you really learn.”(Latina Magazine)

The shoot took place back in April, were Jessica shared a few on-set pictures on twitter.  Picture 1, Picture 2 and Picture 3.

Jessica Alba’s Summer Beauty Secrets
Tweet

When the temperatures rise, Jessica Alba likes to keep her cosmetics bag armed with the essentials. Besides, what else would she need to go with that gorgeous mommy-to-be glow?

The 30-year-old actress and Revlon brand ambassador, who is expecting her second child with husband Cash Warren, took some time out of her busy schedule to chat with StyleList about her summer beauty secrets, go-to sunscreen, fragrance of the moment and more.

Five summer makeup must-haves: Tinted moisturizer, concealer, illuminator, mascara and lip gloss.

Tried and true beauty tips: Before there was cream blush, my grandmother would apply lipstick on her lips, cheeks and eyes. I still do that today. And my mother always told me to wash my face every night, wear sunscreen during the day and drink plenty of water. It’s simple but I like to think that it’s work for me.

How she protects herself from harmful sun rays: I like sunscreen that’s not too heavy so I use my daughter’s California Baby.

Warm-weather hue she can’t get enough of: Papaya orange.

Summer fragrance she spritzes on: Honoré des Prés Vamp à NY. It’s by an organic French brand — not too strong with a sweet vanilla scent.

Nail polish colors that dress up her digits: Revlon Top Speed Nail Polish in Jaded and Fire.

Moisturizers she trusts to keep her skin hydrated while traveling: Jurlique and La Mer. (stylelist).

Katerina Graham talks Jessica Alba & Honey
Tweet

Katerina Graham isn’t expecting Honey 2 to turn her into the next Jessica Alba. The original dance movie propelled Jessica from a TV actress into a Hollywood talent, but Katerina – who plays lead character Maria Bennett – has no expectations that it will do the same for her career.

“If it does, then great, I hope that it does that for me, and for everyone in the cast – otherwise I am just as happy. Honey is one of my favourite films,” she said.

“I watched Jessica Alba’s performance and she is great and terrific in what she does, and the original Honey was really amazing, but how I always saw the film is that Honey 2 is a bit grimier,” she said. (belfasttelegraph).
