Jessica Alba covers Allure Magazine’s August 2011 issue
Tweet

Jessica Alba has starred in action flicks, romantic comedies, and high school dramas. But don’t ever expect to see her in a nude scene (sorry, guys). Check out these exclusive behind-the-scenes shots from her shoot with Michael Thompson. For more of our interview with the actress, pick up the August issue of Allure, on newsstands July 19.

Jessica Alba may be undeniably sexy, but it wasn’t until she actually had a baby of her own, she says, that she understood or appreciated her own sexuality. “I was quite shy with it,” she says. “It wasn’t something I embraced until I had my daughter. I saw how incredible and amazing it is to be a woman and to be able to create a life.

“There’s a reason why certain areas of the body are desirable—because it all leads to reproduction. There’s a science behind it all. It’s not just to sell whatever you’re selling on a billboard or a magazine or a movie.”

Alba has strong feelings about nudity. In all her movies, she says, “At least I’m still covered. I’m wearing as much as a bathing suit. It’s not like I’m naked. I’m not terribly comfortable with being in a bikini, but covering up my genitals is different than not covering up my genitals, at the end of the day. I do see a difference in that, to put it really frankly.” Here, she poses in a satin gown by Derek Lam.

After her first pregnancy, Alba (shown here with hairstylist Danilo) worked hard to get back into shape, and she was successful—up to a point. “I can’t ever get down to the weight I was before I had Honor,” she says. “My body’s just different. The jeans just sort of zip up differently, and things hang differently. It’s a miracle what happens, but you definitely are different afterward.” She laughs. “Unless you’re Gisele.”

Alba was recently horrified by a tabloid story in which a young woman had sought to recapture the attention of an ex-boyfriend by being surgically altered to look more like the actress. “That’s just so bizarre, because the physical is so fleeting anyway,” she says. “And when you’re in a relationship, the physical lasts for, maximum, two years. And then you don’t care how attractive you are to that person—if they drive you nuts, they drive you nuts.”

Danilo clipped in long extensions for some shots but removed them for the cover. “I wanted to work with the effortlessness of her bob,” he says. He created spiral curls with a large iron, parted her hair on the side, and loosened the curls with a mixed-bristle brush. For the cover shot, Alba wore a silk-jersey-and-leather dress by Derek Lam.

Makeup artist Pati Dubroff used red and brown shades for “an ethereal, wood-nymph look.” First, Dubroff dusted a reddish-brown-colored shadow on Alba’s lids and swiped a glossy lipstick pencil on top. She then lined the actress’s eyes with a brown pencil and applied a few coats of black mascara. Next, she swept a generous amount of rosy blush onto the apples of the cheeks. As a final step, the makeup artist used her fingers to tap on nude lipstick, which softened Alba’s lip color.

For her Allure cover, Alba was photographed at Franklin Canyon Lake—a picturesque part of a 605-acre park overlooking the Los Angeles skyline. Her daughter, Honor, visited the set and stayed to watch her pose for a few shots.

At the cover shoot, Alba gave pregnant manicurist April Foreman tips on changing diapers. “You’ll want to practice before you have the baby,” she says. The actress joked with photographer Michael Thompson about her own bump—Alba was also pregnant when he shot her for the June 2008 Allure cover.

Alba, on approaching her thirtieth birthday: “According to some people, I peaked in my early 20s,” she says with a chuckle. “I was like, ‘Oh, really? I feel like I’m getting better.’” (Allure)

Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids 4 gets another trailer
Tweet

Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World relaunches the franchise with a new set of kids, and Jessica Alba as the undercover mother.

Frankly, this trailer plays directly to its intended audience, so it’s not even worth us moaning about the avalanche of so-so CGI, the irritating animal sidekick, and Jeremy Piven’s limp villain.

The trailer even breaks for an odd aside about the movie’s ’4D’ – you’ll get a scratch ‘n’ sniff card in the cinema so that your sense of smell doesn’t feel left out amid the onslaught.

That said, Rodriguez looks to be directing with his trademark energy, and the sight of Alba in a leather catsuit will provide considerable consolation to any dads dragged to this on a Saturday morning. (Total Film)

Jessica Alba’s Summer Beauty Secrets
Tweet

When the temperatures rise, Jessica Alba likes to keep her cosmetics bag armed with the essentials. Besides, what else would she need to go with that gorgeous mommy-to-be glow?

The 30-year-old actress and Revlon brand ambassador, who is expecting her second child with husband Cash Warren, took some time out of her busy schedule to chat with StyleList about her summer beauty secrets, go-to sunscreen, fragrance of the moment and more.

Five summer makeup must-haves: Tinted moisturizer, concealer, illuminator, mascara and lip gloss.

Tried and true beauty tips: Before there was cream blush, my grandmother would apply lipstick on her lips, cheeks and eyes. I still do that today. And my mother always told me to wash my face every night, wear sunscreen during the day and drink plenty of water. It’s simple but I like to think that it’s work for me.

How she protects herself from harmful sun rays: I like sunscreen that’s not too heavy so I use my daughter’s California Baby.

Warm-weather hue she can’t get enough of: Papaya orange.

Summer fragrance she spritzes on: Honoré des Prés Vamp à NY. It’s by an organic French brand — not too strong with a sweet vanilla scent.

Nail polish colors that dress up her digits: Revlon Top Speed Nail Polish in Jaded and Fire.

Moisturizers she trusts to keep her skin hydrated while traveling: Jurlique and La Mer. (stylelist).

Honor turns 3 today – Happy Birthday
Tweet

Honor turns 3 today (born June 7, 2008) and we would like to wish her a happy 3rd birthday. Send all your birthday wishes to her proud parents via twitter and facebook.

She is one of the most popular celebrity offsprings in the world, so it was quite fitting that Jessica Alba’s daughter Honor celebrated her third birthday by dressing up as a princess for the day.

Accompanied by her mother, the three-year-old was spotted in the regal attire as they ventured out in Manhattan yesterday. She wore a badge on the front of the costume which said ‘Birthday Girl’ and clutched a toy doll. (DailyMail). Click on the preview above to view more photos.

Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World – TRAILER
Tweet

The first trailer for Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World has hit the web (See it above). The movie will hit theaters this august 19, in 4D.

On the surface, Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba) has it all…married to a famous spy hunting television reporter, a new baby and intelligent twin step kids. But in reality, trying to mother Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook), who clearly don’t want her around, is her toughest challenge yet. Also, her husband, Wilbur (Joel McHale), wouldn’t know a spy if he lived with one which is exactly the case – Marissa’s a retired secret agent.

Marissa’s world is turned upside down when the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the planet and she’s called back into action by the head of OSS, home of the greatest spies and where the now-defunct Spy Kids division was created. With Armageddon quickly approaching, Rebecca and Cecil are thrust into action when they learn their boring stepmom was once a top agent and now the world’s most competitive ten year olds are forced to put their bickering aside and rely on their wits. With a little help from a couple of very familiar Spy Kids, Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara), and some mind-blowing gadgets, they just may be able to save the world and possibly bring their family together while they’re at it. Jessica Alba Gets Busy Planning Honor’s Third Birthday
Tweet

Jessica Alba isn’t going to let a thing like lobbying Congress stop her from the important business of planning her daughter Honor‘s third birthday party.

As spokesperson for Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Coalition, the expectant actress has been on Capitol Hill this week, asking members of Congress to push forward a bill that would increase the safety of chemicals used in common household products.

But Honor, who turns 3 on June 7, still has Mom’s attention.

“I’ve been planning [her birthday party] from here,” Alba, 30, told PEOPLE in Washington. “She likes playing dress-up, so there’s definitely going to be a playing dress-up element to it.”

Getting dressed up was not on Alba’s mind when she vacationed in Mexico earlier this month. She was spotted in a bikini top and sarong, with her baby bump in full view. She didn’t think twice about the exposure because, well, she didn’t think anyone was looking.

“It’s the only thing that kind of fit!” Alba said, laughing. “And there was nobody around, except for photographers in boats, I guess. There was nobody around where I was.”

People will be watching for the return of Alba’s post-baby figure once her second child, due this fall, arrives. If good genes have anything to do with it, she’ll bounce back quickly.

“My grandmother was amazing,” Alba said. “She would go home and would put on the clothes that she wore before she got pregnant with all five of her kids. It’s definitely good genetics, but she also worked through all of her pregnancies. Just being on your feet and moving probably helped.”

But body will have to come after baby. Alba has plenty of things to look forward to before the return of her fantastic figure — namely, having a newborn again.

“Aww…” she cooed at the prospect. “They’re little peanuts! They’re just the best. Their smell, and the cuddling! They’re so sweet.” (people)

Please stand with me as concerned citizen and parent and take action today. Ask your Senators to support the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011.
