The Oscar nominees won’t be announced until tomorrow, but in the meantime there are contenders for an even more eagerly anticipated prize: the Razzies, which honors the year’s worst films and actors.

Jessica Alba fared even worse, getting a worst actress nomination for four of her 2010 films: “The Killer Inside Me,” “Little Fockers,” “Machete” and “Valentine’s Day.” (CNN)

What kind of award is that? WTF.

Stephen, a Razzie is basically the opposite of an Oscar. It’s an award show ‘honoring’ the worst actors, actresses, films, etc., while the Oscars honor the best.

Of those four films Jessica’s nominated for, I’ve only seen ‘The Killer Inside Me’, and, even though the movie disturbed me, I think Jessica did a great job in her role.

For ALL of them? Yeah, that is BS. I think the ppl at the Razzie’s got it out for Jessica. I think no matter what she does, no matter what genre, or how well she does, or how much she’s improved over past films, they’re gonna nominate her. Spiteful if you ask me.

Not to be taken too seriously I think. Jessica has a great sense of humour so I’m sure she will have a chuckle about this – maybe even show up to accept the award if she wins!
In my annual “Jack Awards” she’s always the winner!

Actually, I have seen all these movies and I think that the performance of Jess in Little Fockers indeed was not very good, not to say awful. I think she is much better in serious roles than in comedies. However, Machete I liked a lot, and I think she did a great job there! The Killer Inside Me was nothing special, actually there was not much playing from Jess in this movie, she just was kind of … there. And the Valentine movie I find just another romantic comedy, where she did well, not great, but well. So, the Razzies might not be completely objective but have a point.

Don’t worry about it everybody. The Razzies get thier publicity precisely because they nominate well-known starts. Would this have made any press if they nominated Jane Doe in some nothing movie?

They are just riding her coat tails for free publicity. By the way, I thought she was very good in Killer Inside Me, not very good in Valentines Day (although that was just a plain awfull strict and unlikeable character), not bad in Machete. I actually really liked her in Little Fockers. She played a crazy chick, and I bought it. What man on this planet wouldn’t want that woman chasing him, crazy or not!

For the record, I also thought she was very or reasonably good in Awake and The Eye (for which she was also nominated for Razzies years ago).

It just goes to show you that it’s all about publicity. She’ll continue to do things like Spy Kids (as long as her body and looks hold out…which they will since she has such a healthy lifestyle – think Michelle Pfiefer). Eventually (maybe 10 years from now), she’ll get the breakout role that she is suited for, maybe with a bit of maturity. Remember Jessica Lange anyone? She was labelled eye candy and then became one ofthe more respected actresses in Hollywood in the later 80′s.

Time is on her side…

@jimmy

With regards to Jessica Lange, they can’t really be compared. Lange struck popularity and recognition as a great actress among critics and went on to win awards like “Best Actress” after just a few films. Jessica’s done (according to IMDB) more than 20 films (not including TV shows/appearances) and no memorable awards from most of her films (I don’t consider any appearance-based awards as worthy, as it’s largely something you’re born with or willing to go under a knife for)

It just still seems like she’s in the business for the money, more than for the joy and passion of giving an audience a real persona to believe on screen (which she generally admitted after having Honor).

Hopefully, as you mentioned, with age will come wisdom.

@james

Yeah, you may be right. I would point out that the movie industry is very different now than in the 70′s or 80′s, and maybe “eye candy” has, ironically, even less chance of succeding as a serious actor/ress now than ever before. She has said many times in interviews that her attraction to the industry was more for the comraderie of the set rather than “I just want to make everyone laugh/cry” type of thing. She must have been very insecure growing up (which I think she admits anyway).

Anyway, maybe she should have had better management early on and she might have been steered towards the right projects much sooner (like Lange). Certainly now she seems to need to move to a higher level management-wise (enough with the revlon, NGO stuff already). Then again, she makes the final decision I suppose. I still think she needs more time, and sounds like you agree with me on that anyway.

It’s a shame, since in comparison to the bevy of trainwrecks out there now that have more “respect”, she will have to work very hard.

Agreed.

I think the media pisses on her because she has been typecasted as eyecandy.

Hollywood is still behind the times in regards to believable roles and letting people branch outside of a certain marketing demographic.

It’s a really bull shit, I think… :(

Jessica Alba came up with a thoughtful and commendable performance in ‘The Killer Inside Me’, probably a career-best, and should never have been included in these unimpressive nominations—-
